The first few days were amazing. We had that rush you get at the start. We rode through stunning places with the cool sea breeze helping us pedal along.

We came across torii gates tucked away in the hills, forests of ancient trees, lantern-filled shrines where everything was covered in moss.

Et on a fait des heures de vélo calme dans le silence de la campagne japonaise.
And we spent hours cycling peacefully through the silence of the Japanese countryside.

And then all of a sudden, it just poured.

On a vite compris pourquoi la végétation était aussi luxuriente ici. Il faut bien les arroser toutes ces forêts. Les jours suivants sont donc passés sous des trompes d'eau toute la journée.
We quickly understood why the vegetation was so lush out here. All those forests need watering somehow. So the following days were spent riding through torrential rain all day long.

We also discovered something funny — after weeks of not crossing paths with a single cyclist, there were hundreds of them here. Kitted out, riding in tight packs along the coast.

One last perk of bikepacking is how little stuff you have with you. Since the bags were basically empty, we had plenty of room to load up on souvenirs.
