Admin French is mostly two moves: saying what you want (j'aimerais ouvrir un compte) and naming the documents you have or need (il me faut une pièce d'identité). Get those two patterns fluent and the bank, the
CAF and the préfecture all become the same conversation.

Can-Do Goal

I can open a bank account, say which documents I have, ask about fees and how
things work, and start an administrative request (housing aid / residence
permit) by phone or online.

Saying what you want + naming documents 🔑

Two patterns carry the whole scenario:

• j'aimerais / je voudrais + infinitive → the polite request: J'aimerais ouvrir un compte.
• il me faut + noun (= "I need") → Il me faut une pièce d'identité.
  • synonym: avoir besoin de + noun → J'ai besoin d'un justificatif.
• pour + infinitive = "in order to" → Pour ouvrir un compte, il faut…

request.

Produce, out loud:

• open with j'aimerais + infinitive (ouvrir un compte);
