il y a for what exists, place prepositions (à côté de, en face de),
and the de contractions. Get the contractions right and the whole topic flows.

The Grammar That Powers It

de contractions in place prepositions 🔑

Place prepositions ending in de contract with le/les:

• à côté **de la** banque (fem.) · à côté **du** parc (= de + le) · à côté **des** magasins (= de + les) · à côté **de l'**école (vowel)
• and aller does the mirror: je vais **au** restaurant, **à la** banque, **aux** magasins.

Production Drill

Scene: A classmate asks where you live; then a friend asks how to walk to
your place from the metro.

Produce, out loud:

• building + floor (ordinal) + one detail (la vue, le loyer);
• one il y a inventory;
• two place prepositions (à côté de, en face de…) with correct de contraction;
• one balanced opinion with mais;
• directions with three imperatives + one negative imperative (ne prends pas…).
